Study shows medical insurance coverage may influence the growing number of papillary thyroid cancer diagnoses
In an examination of Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results data, senior author Louise Davies, MD, MS, the Veterans Administration Outcomes Group, White River Junction, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and assistant professor of Surgery of The Dartmouth Institute, along with lead author Luc Morris, MD, MSc, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, determined that the incidence of papillary thyroid cancer is increasing at a greater rate among patients older than 65 years with Medicare insurance compared with adults younger than 65 without insurance.
The study is published in the journal Thyroid.
