New study shows that more than 6% of patients diagnosed with melanoma experience a recurrence a decade or more following initial treatments
In a study of 4731 patients diagnosed with melanoma, Mark Faries, MD, FACS, a professor of surgery at the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center, Santa Monica, CA, and colleagues discovered that the disease recurred 10 or more years following initial treatments in 408 of the study participants.
The study results are published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
