Study reveals that surgeries to remove tumors in soft tissue of limbs do not always involve an oncology specialist

According to a UC Davis study conducted by Robert J. Canter, associate professor of surgery, and colleagues, specially trained orthopedic oncologists and surgical oncologists perform only 52% of soft tissue sarcoma surgeries, while general surgeons, plastic surgeons, and orthopedic surgeons conduct the other 48% of sarcoma surgeries.

The study is published online in the Journal of Surgical Oncology.
