A recent study by Wake Forest Baptist researchers revealed a lower rate of physical activity among rural cancer survivors

In a study of 1642 cancer survivors residing in rural counties and 6162 survivors living in urban counties, Kathryn E. Weaver, PhD, assistant professor of social sciences and health policy at Wake Forest Baptist, and her colleagues examined the rates of self-reported health behaviors, including smoking habits and physical activity.

Among other findings, the study uncovered a lack of regular physical activity among 51% of rural cancer survivors. In comparison, 39% of urban cancer survivors did not participate in regular physical activity.

The study was published in the journal Cancer Causes & Control.
