Drug Side Effects Hinder Lives of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Patients

Moffitt Cancer Center researchers studied quality of life in patients taking tyrosine kinase inhibitors

In a study of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients taking tyrosine kinase inhibitors, Moffitt Cancer Center researchers examined the significant side effects that affect patient quality of life.

Paul B. Jacobsen, PhD, study senior author, associate center director and senior member of the Health Outcomes and Behavior Program at Moffitt, and colleagues determined that finding solutions for drug side effects (eg, fatigue, depression, change of appearance) is important because patients with CML often take tyrosine kinase inhibitors indefinitely, and the drugs greatly affect patient quality of life.

The study is published in Supportive Care in Cancer.
