Study investigates long-term antihypertensive drug use and related breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women
In a study involving 1763 participants aged 55 to 74 years, researchers from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center led by Christopher Li, MD, PhD, head of the Translational Research Program and member of the Public Health Sciences Division, determined that the risk of both invasive ductal and invasive lobular breast cancers is about 2.5 times greater in postmenopausal women who currently use and have been taking calcium-channel blockers for 10 years or more.
The research is published online in JAMA Internal Medicine.
