Study shows colon cancer screening rates among uninsured patients could improve with use of mailed correspondence
In a study led by Samir Gupta, MD, MSCS, an associate professor of clinical medicine and gastroenterologist at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System, researchers discovered that when compared with usual screening strategies, participation in both no-cost fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) and no-cost colonoscopies increased among uninsured patients when invitations for either FIT or colonoscopy were mailed to participants.
Study results are published online in JAMA Internal Medicine.
