Penn Medicine researchers discover novel genetic risk factors, which may lead to early detection of testicular cancer
In a meta-analysis of 3 genome-wide association studies, researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania isolated 4 new genetic markers correlated with an increased testicular cancer risk.
Peter A. Kanetsky, PhD, MPH, an associate professor in the department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, along with other researchers evaluated the genomes of over 13,000 men. The study results showed that 4 loci (4q22, 7q22, 16q22.3, and 17q22) were significantly associated with testicular germ cell tumor risk.
The study is published online in Nature Genetics.
