According to research presented at Digestive Disease Week, patients can improve bowel preparation for colonoscopy with the help of a smartphone application
Results from a study by the gastroenterologists at Arizona Digestive Health in Phoenix, AZ, that were presented at Digestive Disease Week show that patient use of a smartphone app significantly improves colonoscopy preparation.
For the study, Nilay Kavathia, MD, a gastroenterology fellow at Phoenix VA and Banner Health and one of the developers of the application, compared Boston Bowel Preparation Scale scores of patients who used the “Arizona Digestive Health” app and patients who did not. Results showed that a good score on the 9-point Boston Bowel Preparation Scale was achieved by 84% of the patients who used the smartphone app. Of those who prepared for colonoscopy without the app, only 56% achieved a good score.
