Latest standards help to personalize multiple myeloma therapies
New guidelines related to the care of multiple myeloma patients not participating in clinical trials were recently published by Mayo Clinic Cancer Center researchers.
According to lead author Joseph Mikhael, MD, a hematologist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, these new guidelines will reserve the more intense therapies for patients with aggressive disease and allow patients with low-risk disease to avoid the more severe side effects of therapy.
The guidelines offer physicians useful suggestions for providing initial therapy, stem cell transplant, and maintenance therapy.
The guidelines are published in the current issue of the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
